WHAT ARE THEY AND HOW DO THEY WORK?
Polynucleotides are long chains of DNA sourced from trout or salmon sperm DNA and suspended in water to make them injectable. They can either be injected with a small needle or by using a cannula. Once injected, the polynucleotides absorb into the skin and get to work. They work in three ways:

1. They stimulate your fibroblasts to produce more collagen, elastin (tightening action) and hyaluronic acid (responsible for hydrating the skin).

2. They are anti-oxidants and work to eliminate free radicals in the skin which are responsible for skin damage and ageing.

3. They signal the skin to intensively wound heal and therefore are very effective at reducing scars and stretch marks.

It is important to note that polynucleotides are NOT the same as skin boosters and Profhilo as they are not an injectable hyaluronic acid.

WHAT CAN POLYNUCLEOTIDES  BE USED FOR?

To improve the texture and tone of the skin on any part of the face and body including:

1. Under eyes (treats dark circles and lines) making it a great alternative to tear trough filler

2. Forehead lines

3. The mouth area

4. Loose skin on the inner thighs, arms and abdomen

5. Neck and décolletage area (lifts and tightens by strengthening skin)

6. Scars and marks

7. It can also be used to treat hair thinning and loss

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WORK?

Because they are bio-regenerative, it takes time to see results. Initial results can be seen in as little as 2-3 weeks but the results improve over time.

DOWN TIME?

Polynucleotides can either be administered via multiple small injections creating small 'blebs' on the skin which can take 24-48 hours to go down. If a cannula is used to administer polynucleotides, there can be a temporary area of swelling too. Small bruises can occur from the needles but these are concealable after 24 hours.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

On average between 6-9 months but this can vary between individuals.

CONTRAINDICATIONS TO TREATMENT

You will always be required to have a thorough consultation prior to any treatment planning, however there are a few contraindications to having polynucleotides as with any skin treatment:

1. If you have a skin infection

2. If you feel unwell

3. If you are taking certain medications

4. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding

Unlike dermal fillers, there is no risk of blocking blood vessels (vascular occlusion) with Polynucleotides and there are no long term risks. On the contrary, this treatment is a fantastic option for long term use.
