TEETH WHITENING

COST

£450

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Tooth whitening involves bleaching your teeth with a peroxide gel in order to lighten them. It should only be carried by the safe hands of dental professionals as it is a dental treatment. All patients who are undertaking a course of teeth whitening must be dentally fit prior to commencing treatment and will be required to have dental X-rays taken within the last 6-12 months.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

Teeth whitening is a straightforward process which involves and upper and lower moulds being taken of your teeth, which are then sent away to our lab in order to make customised whitening trays. You will be given your trays and the bleaching solution at your second visit as well as comprehensive after care instructions and your journey will begin from there!

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WORK?

Whilst patients are instructed to wear the trays for a few hours each day for a couple of weeks, many people achieve their desired results after a few days.

IS TOOTH WHITENING PERMANENT?

Nothing is permanent in dentistry, however, tooth whitening results can last between 6 months and 3 years. The duration of results is dependent on external factors (e.g. smoking and diet).

RISKS OF TREATMENT:

1. If you are prone to sensitivity prior to treatment, it is common to experience more sensitivity during the treatment. In order to minimise discomfort for patients, we have different strengths of bleach available and patients who experience more sensitivity will be prescribed a lower dose of bleach. This will ensure a comfortable bleaching process but will take slightly longer to achieve the desired results.

2. Burns to the gums - this can occur if the bleaching solution is applied incorrectly, however I make sure my patients are comfortable with how to apply the bleach to their trays to avoid this risk before they commence tooth whitening.
